HIHI Supports Clinical Evaluation of AI Tool to Improve Hypertension Care
Health Innovation Hub Ireland (HIHI) has facilitated the clinical evaluation of AI-BP, an artificial intelligence-powered clinical decision support tool designed to enhance hypertension management in routine healthcare settings.
The evaluation is led by Dr Conor Judge, Consultant Nephrologist and Senior Lecturer in Applied Clinical Data Analytics at the University of Galway. AI-BP integrates with Electronic Health Records to analyse blood pressure readings, medications and other clinical data, providing clinicians with explainable, evidence-based treatment recommendations.
The project has also secured €700,000 in funding through the Health Research Board’s Clinician Scientist Fellowships 2023 scheme. Over the next four years, the research aims to address the global care gap in hypertension management, a condition affecting more than 1.4 billion people worldwide.
Dr Judge recently showcased AI-BP at the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme Big Pitch 2026 in London’s Central Westminster Hall, presenting the innovation to an audience of more than 1,100 entrepreneurs, investors and healthcare partners.
HIHI’s involvement in the clinical evaluation highlights its ongoing role in supporting the development and validation of innovative health technologies that have the potential to improve patient care and clinical decision-making.
