HIHI Spotlight case study: Enoda Health Bringing Real-World Mobility Data to Neurological Care
HIHI Spotlights Enoda Health in latest Clinical Evaluation Case Study released today.
Health Innovation Hub Ireland (HIHI) is delighted to spotlight Irish health technology company Enoda Health in its latest clinical evaluation case study, highlighting the potential of real-world mobility data to support neurological care.
Enoda Health was established to bring clinically validated mobility data into routine neurological care. Its technology uses a single wearable sensor positioned on the lower back to capture detailed information about how a person moves in their everyday environment.
The platform processes this data to generate a suite of Digital Mobility Outcomes, including walking speed, stride length, cadence and measures of gait variability. The technology builds on the work of the €50 million EU-funded Mobilise-D research programme, which involved approximately 2,400 patients and established and validated 24 Digital Mobility Outcomes derived from wearable sensor data.
Addressing a gap in neurological care
Monitoring how patients move and function is an important part of managing neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease. However, conventional assessments often rely on subjective rating scales, short clinic-based walking tests and patient self-reporting.
These approaches may not capture how a patient’s mobility fluctuates in their everyday life, including changes associated with treatment or medication. Enoda’s technology aims to provide clinicians with objective, real-world mobility data to complement existing clinical assessments.
HIHI’s role
As part of the clinical evaluation, HIHI leveraged its extensive clinical network to identify and engage clinicians with relevant expertise in neurological care.
HIHI worked closely with Enoda Health ahead of the engagement to help ensure that the clinical discussions and questions were tailored to both the company’s objectives and the expertise of participating clinicians. This approach was designed to maximise the value of the engagement and generate feedback that could inform Enoda’s ongoing product development.
The evaluation generated strong clinical interest, with clinicians recognising the potential of the technology to address an important gap by providing access to real-world mobility data that is not typically available in routine care.
The project also identified opportunities for Enoda to explore additional clinical applications and evidence-generation opportunities. These included potential applications beyond Parkinson’s Disease, such as Multiple Sclerosis and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, alongside opportunities for future pilots.
Feedback from the evaluation also highlighted important considerations for implementation, including clinical workflows, report design and core functionality.
Supporting innovation from development to clinical application
The Enoda Health evaluation demonstrates the role HIHI can play in connecting innovative companies with healthcare professionals and supporting meaningful engagement between enterprise and the health service.
