HIHI September Spotlight: Lia™ Eyecare
Health Innovation Hub Ireland (HIHI) is pleased to recognise Lia™ Eyecare as our September Spotlight company, celebrating this innovative Irish medtech company and its work to improve eye health in an increasingly screen-focused world.
Cork based Lia™ Eyecare is developing solutions to address common challenges associated with prolonged screen use and dry eye, including eye fatigue, discomfort and irritation. Its wearable cold therapy device, Nightleaf®, is a CE-marked, reusable, non-pharmacological solution designed to provide immediate relief from eye discomfort, eye fatigue and screen-related strain.
Through a pilot project with HIHI, Lia™ Eyecare explored the use of Nightleaf® in a real-world setting, gathering valuable user feedback on the product and its potential to support people experiencing the effects of prolonged screen use and dry eye.
The pilot provided early insights to inform future product refinement, instructions for use and the design of further home-use studies. Overall, the findings indicated that Nightleaf® provided immediate comfort, was highly usable and was well received by participants.
Dry, sore and irritated eyes are estimated to affect approximately 1.6 billion people worldwide, highlighting the potential need for accessible approaches to managing everyday eye discomfort.
The recognition comes at an exciting time for Lia™ Eyecare. The company was named 2026 NovaUCD Spin-out of the Year, is supported by Enterprise Ireland and was selected as a global finalist for the M2D2 $200K Challenge.
