HIHI Director Dr. Tanya Mulcahy interviewed in this week’s Sunday Times “Pioneers of femtech push boundaries in women’s health”

Great article by Sandra O’ Connell for this week’s Sunday Times Ireland “Pioneers of femtech push boundaries in women’s health.”

Femtech tech based innovations targeting women’s health are on the rise and the article highlights up and coming femtech companies and products including Joii, Peri, Gigi Supplements, FemmeBiome and The Menopal.

Health Innovation Hub Ireland Director, Dr. Tanya Mulcahy contributed to the article and highlighted the need for the development of female focused products. “Women are suddenly saying hang on why isn’t there something for this condition. Why is there no research into it. It has not helped that for so long subjects like menstruation, menopause and postpartum depression were taboo”.

There is a commercial opportunity outlines Sandra O’ Connell in the article as she quotes the World Economic Forum that targeting the women’s health gap could boost the global economy by €1 trillion annually by 2040.

Dr. Mulcahy highlights that “even the way women get cardiovascular disease is different to men and stroke manifests differently” and essentially “more government funding could put Ireland to the fore in what is still unchartered territory”.

Dr. Mulcahy is the founder of  FemTechIreland @Health Innovation Hub Ireland which stimulates and supports the development of high potential new products, services and start-ups in Femtech. If you have a product which will improve women’s health submit your service or idea to HIHI’s Innovation portal. More details here.
