AltaSeal® is a permanent, non-hormonal contraceptive implant being developed by AltaScience for women who want permanent birth control. The product is a small biocompatible implant that is placed into each fallopian tube through the cervix using a hysteroscope. The procedure is designed to be performed in an outpatient setting without abdominal surgery. Once implanted, AltaSeal® will permanently block the fallopian tubes, preventing sperm from reaching the egg. This stops fertilisation and provides permanent contraception.

Around the world there are circa 220 million women relying on permanent contraception via surgical tubal ligation to avoid pregnancy. AltaSeal® is an alternative contraception with a simple, easily-accessible, effective, non-surgical procedure which can be carried out as an ambulatory out-patient procedure.
