HIHI Team

Dr. Steven Griffin

Innovation from Healthcare Lead, NUI Galway | NUIG

Steven joined the Health Innovation Hub Ireland team in Galway in early 2019. He works closely with the healthcare community and academic partners from across a diverse range of disciplines to identify and investigate opportunities for innovation, and to progress projects based on unmet clinical needs. Steven also engages in technology evaluation with Irish companies to develop HIHI projects. In collaboration with the HIHI team, Steven is responsible for the  continued development and implementation of the HIHI strategy to support healthcare employees to progress their ideas into products.

Steven has 13+ years’ experience in product R&D and commercialisation in the lifescience sector. He spent 11 years as a product researcher with a multinational biotechnology company. As part of the operations team in CÚRAM – Science Foundation Ireland’s (SFI) €37 million flagship Centre for Research in Medical Devices, Steven was responsible for identifying, writing and coordinating funding applications, coordinating partner meetings, and business plan development. The role also included developing funding, communication, and recruitment strategies. As the COO of Cell Stress Discoveries, an innovative startup focused on developing novel therapeutics for cancer, Steven was involved in the day to day running of the company in addition to networking, business development, commercialisation, and fund-raising activities.

Steven has a PhD in Biotechnology, an MSc in Neuropharmacology, a BSc in Biotechnology and a certificate in business management.
